The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a federal tax credit for businesses that hire people from certain groups. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) manage the WOTC program together. WOTC encourages employers to hire job seekers who have a hard time finding work.

WOTC helps people find jobs, earn money, and become steady taxpayers. It supports a varied workplace and offers more job openings for Americans.

Program Authorization

In 2020, Congress passed the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021. This law extended the WOTC program and empowerment zone designations until the end of 2025, offering tax benefits to businesses and extra help to special areas.

If you think you belong to one of these target groups, tell employers about the potential tax credit benefit for hiring you.

If you think you meet the qualifications for one of the veteran target groups, contact a Texas Veterans Leadership Program (TVLP) representative, who can issue an ETA Form 9062 (Conditional Certification) for you to show to prospective employers so they know that hiring you may result in tax savings for their business.
