AUSTIN ⎯ The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded Frank Phillips College a $274,761 Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant. The grant will help the college purchase and install equipment to provide Borger High School and Frank Phillips College students with training for careers in the petroleum refining and chemical products industry.
"Congratulations to Frank Phillips College, Borger High School and Workforce Solutions Panhandle for their commitment to providing state of the art training and employment opportunities in high-demand industries that will support Texas’ continued success as a global economic leader,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Aaron Demerson. “This JET grant will focus on specialized training in the petroleum refining and chemical products industry which will directly benefit the Panhandle region.”
The JET program provides funding for equipment to eligible educational institutions for the purpose of developing career and technical education courses and may include courses offering dual-credit and technical education programs. The equipment must be used to train students in high-demand occupations.
In 2018, TWC awarded 23 grants totaling $4,998,000 to public community and technical colleges and independent school districts for programs that focus on supporting new, emerging industries or high-demand occupations through the JET grant program.
