AUSTIN ⎯ The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded Gregory-Portland Independent School District (ISD) a $251,828 Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant. The grant will help the ISD purchase and install equipment to provide students with training for careers in the healthcare profession.
“Congratulations to Gregory-Portland Independent School District on this JET grant which will provide state of the art training and employment opportunities in high-demand industries that support Texas’ continued success as a global economic leader,” said TWC Chair Ruth Ruggero Hughs. “This grant will focus on specialized training in the health care profession which will directly benefit the Coastal Bend region.”
The Jobs and Education for Texans grant program allocates $10 million each biennium to defray start-up costs associated with the development of career and technical education programs to public community and technical colleges, and independent school districts. Equipment funded through JET grants must be used to train students for jobs in high-demand occupations.
In 2018, TWC awarded 23 grants totaling $4,998,000 to public community and technical colleges and independent school districts for programs that focus on supporting new, emerging industries or high-demand occupations through the JET grant program.
Eligible educational institutions can apply for the next phase of JET funding through a competitive grant process. TWC has issued a Request for Applications (RFA) solicitation that provides information and instruction on how to submit a proposal packet. Go to the JET Grant Program webpage to access the RFA Solicitation.
