AUSTIN ⎯ The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded Terrell Independent School District a $287,304 Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant. The grant will help the school district purchase and install equipment to provide students with training for careers in engineering and manufacturing.
“Terrell Independent school district is not only helping students learn valuable skills but ensuring that students walk across their stage with careers, financial stability, and futures,” said TWC Commissioner Representing the Public Robert Thomas. “This JET grant directly impacts student’s ability to pursue CTE and benefits the entire Greater Dallas Region.”
The JET program provides funding for equipment to eligible educational institutions to develop career and technical education courses and may include courses offering dual-credit and professional education programs. The equipment must be used to train students in high-demand occupations that include robotics, engineering, and manufacturing.
In 2018, TWC awarded 23 grants totaling $4,998,000 to public community and technical colleges and independent school districts for programs that focus on supporting new, emerging industries or high-demand occupations through the JET grant program.
Eligible educational institutions can apply for the next phase of JET funding through a competitive grant process. TWC has issued a Request for Applications (RFA) solicitation that provides information and instruction on how to submit a proposal packet. Go to the JET Grant Program webpage to access the RFA Solicitation.
