Agency recognized for the eighth year in a row for national tech awards

AUSTIN ⎯ The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) received three Best of Texas awards presented this month from the Center for Digital Government. This year marked TWC’s eighth year of being recognized by the national organization, which hosts the Best of Texas Awards at its annual Texas Digital Government Summit.

Winners are selected based on collaboration among agencies, innovative use of technology, economic benefits and improving public services and business processes.

Texas Career Check, an online career exploration tool developed through recommendations of the Texas Tri-Agency partnership, received the award for Best Application Serving the Public. TWC's Treasury Offset Program also won for Best Application Serving an Agency's Business Needs and IT Human Resources Manager Suzanne Hays was recognized with the Outstanding IT Service and Support Award for her dedication and high standards of public service.

“Congratulations to all the TWC employees whose valuable efforts contributed to our receipt of three Best of Texas awards this year,” said TWC Chairman Andres Alcantar. “This recognition demonstrates the talent and commitment that TWC employees bring in their service to the state of Texas.”

The Texas Career Check website is a career search tool for high school students and that provides information on hundreds of different jobs, how much they pay, how popular they are and what students will need to study in order to achieve them.

“We are committed to providing innovative tools that benefits Texans and I congratulate everyone for their continued work in serving the needs of our employers,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Ruth R. Hughs.

The Treasury Offset Program helps the state agency and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to intercept funds that were either overpaid or paid fraudulently. TWC partnered with the IRS to develop the program, and has so far recovered approximately $32.3 million in IRS intercepts.

TWC is dedicated to the continued enhancement of these award winning programs that protect our citizens and benefit Texans,” said TWC Commission Representing Labor Julian Alvarez.

The Best of Texas Awards recognize public-sector professionals and local government organizations for their dedication and contributions to advancing information technology in Texas. Photos from the awards can be viewed on the Center of Digital Government website.
