AUSTIN ⎯ The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), in partnership with Texas Veterans Commission, Workforce Solutions Gulf Coast, Next Op, and Amegy Bank will host area employers, human resource professionals and employment stakeholders at a TX Hires Vets Forum at Amegy Bank in Houston on Wednesday, Oct. 10.

The forum will focus on sharing best practices on hiring, on-boarding and retaining Texas veterans in our workforce; the forum will offer additional information on the Veteran Tax Credit. The agenda will include a special keynote on moving your business beyond veteran-friendly to veteran-ready, and a panel discussion consisting of several local employers sharing their success stories on hiring veterans.

"Veterans have proven the ability to learn new skills and concepts from their military training and can bolster any business with their leadership qualities,” said TWC Chair Ruth Ruggero Hughs. “I encourage our Texas employers to hire veterans and give them the opportunity to experience the same pride and purpose they had while serving.”

Veterans bring experience, skills and leadership abilities that will strengthen any business. According to recent stats, two out of three veterans experience a difficult transition from military life to civilian life, while an estimated 75% of veterans polled considered programs helping them to find employment.

“We’re excited that TWC and its partners have chosen Houston to launch the TX Hires Vets Forum,” said Amegy Bank Houston market president Dave Stevenson. “Having a career – a job that helps one build a better future – has a lasting impact on any individual and community. This forum continues the discussion and reaffirms the state of Texas and the city of Houston’s commitment to employing veterans.”

Participating employers in panel discussions will include, Adaptive Construction Solutions, Tenaris, and Gaylord Hotels.

“At Adaptive Construction Solutions, we have created a veteran-friendly culture that makes for a smooth transition into a career,” said Adaptive Construction Solution President, Nicholas Morgan. “We are happy to share our success stories and hopefully encourage more employers to hire our nation’s heroes.”

"The success of a company lies in its people and Tenaris is driven by the strength of its employees, each contributing their diverse skills and knowledge,” said Tenaris Sr. Recruiter, Dane Hayton. "Hiring veterans extends opportunities for growth, integrating their know-how with our own, enhancing the company's competitive edge."

“We are proud to have military veterans as part of the Marriott family, and having them on our team provides tremendous value to our company and culture, “said Gaylord Texas Resort Director of Human Resources, Gracie Vega. “As we continue to expand our veteran population, it is critical that we participate in forums such as this, and create partnerships to help build a veteran candidate pipeline.”
