AUSTIN ⎯ The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded Wharton County Junior College a $279,300 Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant. The grant will help the school purchase and install equipment to provide students with training in the oil and gas profession.

“The JET grant program  directly supports employers who seek well trained middle-skilled workers in our state,” said TWC Chairman and Commissioner Representing the Public Bryan Daniel “With this grant, we are investing in more than oil and gas equipment, we are investing in the future of Wharton County Junior College students and their families.”

The Jobs and Education for Texans grant program allocates funds each biennium to defray start-up costs associated with the development of career and technical education programs to public community and technical colleges, and independent school districts. Equipment funded through JET grants must be used to train students for jobs in high-demand occupations.

In 2019, TWC awarded 27 grants totaling $5,718,073 to public community and technical colleges and independent school districts for programs that focus on supporting new, emerging industries or high-demand occupations through the JET grant program.

Eligible educational institutions can apply for the next phase of JET funding through a competitive grant process. Please visit the JET Grant Program webpage for more information about upcoming solicitations.
