AUSTIN ⎯ Bay Area Houston Advanced Technology Consortium (BayTech) received a $332,324 Texas Talent Connection grant from the Office of Governor Greg Abbott to support innovative education and workforce skills training programs that lead to successful job placement, increased wages, and improved job retention. BayTech will provide training opportunities to eligible individuals who are unemployed recent high school graduates and displaced workers in the Gulf Coast area.

“Texas continues to increase the talent pipeline for the aerospace and manufacturing workforce with newly-trained young people, ensuring Texas manufacturing production continues to lead the nation,” said TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel. “Congratulations to BayTech for creating regional partnerships to support these industries which are so important to the Gulf Coast and Texas.”

BayTech works with community partners to continue a mission of training and placement of participants as certified electrical, composite, or structural technicians in the aerospace industry. Participants will have the opportunity to complete electrical, composite, or structural technician training and then will sit for a nationally recognized certification exam as either an aerospace electrical technician, an aerospace composite technician, or an aerospace structural technician as administered through CertTEC. BayTech works closely with Workforce Solutions Gulf Coast for employment services throughout the program process.

On behalf of the Office of Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Workforce Investment Council facilitates the call for applications and competitive selection processes for the Texas Talent Connection grant program. The Texas Workforce Commission is responsible for processes related to Texas Talent Connection grant award negotiation, funding, management, and monitoring.

The Texas Talent Connection grant program is funded by Wagner-Peyser 7(b) federal funds. These funds are allocated yearly to each state’s Office of the Governor to fund workforce training and job placement services.
