What does Texas offer for Veterans?

TWC can help employers expand their veteran workforce and find ways to transfer military service into civilian occupations. The Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) is a state agency with the goal of helping veterans. Their Veterans Employment Services (VES) program helps veterans find long-term and meaningful jobs. Additionally, can use TWC programs to enhance their recruitment, hiring, and retention.

  • Employers can participate in Hiring Red, White and You! at no cost and can contact their local Workforce Solutions Office for more information.
  • Employers who hire veterans may be eligible for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit, which allows up to $9,600 in federal business income or payroll tax benefits.
  • Through the WeHireVets initiative, TWC recognizes businesses in which veterans make up at least 10% of the workforce.

What is the tax benefit of hiring Veterans?

The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a federal tax credit for businesses. It encourages employers to hire jobseekers who face challenges in finding work. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulate the WOTC program together.

WOTC's goal is to help individuals get jobs, earn money and become responsible taxpayers. It's part of efforts to promote diversity at work and make it easier for Americans to find good job opportunities.
