TWC’s Office of the Commissioner Representing Employers sponsors the Texas Conference for Employers, a series of employer seminars held each year throughout the state. At these seminars, employers can learn about:
• Texas and federal employment laws.
• Unemployment claims and appeals process.
Experienced speakers explain important issues for Texas businesses and answer your questions.
Conference Information
We choose seminar topics based on the most common inquiries. Sometimes we substitute a topic or change the order because of scheduling conflicts.
Here are examples of one- and two-day conference schedules:
Recommended attire is business casual.
Here are some of the topics we typically cover:
- Texas Employment Law and Hiring Legally
- Federal and Texas Wage and Hour Law
- Unemployment Claims and Appeals
- Independent Contractors
- Employee Policy Handbooks
- Drug Testing
- Workplace Privacy Issues
- Background Checks and Social Media
This conference focuses on state and federal employment laws. We do not handle questions about:
- COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA: These are complicated insurance laws.
- Retirement/Pension Plans: We do not offer advice on these topics.
- Labor Unions or Collective Bargaining: We do not deal with issues related to unions.
These topics are highly specialized and require a lot of expertise. To get the best advice, we strongly recommend that you seek legal counsel that specializes in these areas.
Seating is limited, so we recommend that you register in advance. Phone registration is not accepted.
