The Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) program was allocated $16 million for the FY20-21 biennium to provide grants to public community, state and technical colleges, school districts, and open-enrollment charter schools to purchase and install equipment necessary for the development of career and technical education courses or program that lead to a license, certificate or post-secondary degree in a high-demand occupation. Formerly under the direction of the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, legislation passed by the 84th Texas Legislature transferred oversight of the state-funded program to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
The JET Advisory Board will meet at least once each quarter, or as needed, to review received applications and recommend grant awards. The Board will be presided over by the Chair of TWC and will also include education and workforce stakeholders appointed by:
Appointees will serve two-year terms. The Chair of TWC will hold a statutory appointment.
