AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott today announced a Skills Development Fund (SDF) grant award totaling $262,944 to Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande Valley by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). Through this SDF grant, Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande Valley will provide customized training to 317 new and current employees of Lone Star National Bank for high-demand occupations in the commercial banking industry.

AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott today announced four Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants totaling over $911,500 have been awarded to four schools in the East Texas region by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The JET grants will support career and technical education (CTE) training programs by helping the schools purchase and install equipment to initially train more than 470 students for high-demand occupations as welders, nurses, and mechanical engineers.

AUSTIN –The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is now accepting applications for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) as a result of severe storms and flooding in South Texas that began March 26. As noted in the May 23 announcement from Governor Greg Abbott and the Presidential Disaster Declaration (DR-4871-TX) dated May 21, 2025, workers and self-employed individuals in Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy Counties who have been unable to work due to damage sustained from severe storms and flooding may be eligible for DUA benefits.

AUSTIN ⎯ The Texas labor market reached record highs in both total jobs and the size of the civilian labor force in April. Texas added 37,700 positions over the month to reach a total of 14,320,100 nonfarm jobs. The state added 215,500 jobs over the year, bringing the annual nonfarm growth rate to 1.5 percent which outpaced the national growth rate by 0.3 percentage points.
