AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott today announced five career training grants totaling over $1,531,600 have been awarded to five schools in the San Antonio area to train students for high-demand, good-paying jobs after graduation. These Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants, awarded through the Texas Workforce Commission, will support career and technical education (CTE) training programs by helping the schools purchase and install equipment to initially train more than 650 students for high-demand occupations as software developers, nurses, welders, and more.

The nationwide event highlights the significant growth of apprenticeship programs through recent years and showcases how they are developing a highly skilled workforce to strengthen our economy. 

AUSTIN ⎯ The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is proud to highlight the success of its ApprenticeshipTexas program, which has helped Moore County Hospital, a rural healthcare provider, address a critical staffing shortage. Launched in 2023, this apprenticeship program has helped address the hospital’s nursing shortage, a challenge faced by many Texas healthcare facilities. 

AUSTIN ⎯ The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is now accepting applications for the Upskill Texas program, which offers Texas businesses an advantage in building a highly qualified workforce.  

AUSTIN ⎯ Texas' economy continued its strong performance in March, with the labor market achieving record highs in both total jobs and the size of the civilian labor force. Texas added 26,500 positions over the month to reach a total of 14,282,600 nonfarm jobs. The state added 192,100 jobs over the year, bringing the annual nonfarm growth rate to 1.4 percent which outpaced the national growth rate by 0.2 percentage points.

AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott today announced four Skills Development Fund (SDF) grant awards totaling $1,352,957 to Collin County Community College District (Collin College) by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). Through these SDF grants, Collin College will provide customized training for more than 840 new and current workers at 13 local businesses for high-demand occupations in healthcare, accounting, manufacturing, and more.

AUSTIN ⎯ The Texas labor market continued to achieve record highs for both jobs and the civilian labor force in February. The state added 20,100 positions over the month to reach a total of 14,254,200 nonfarm jobs. Texas added 182,300 jobs from February 2024 to February 2025, bringing the annual nonfarm growth rate to 1.3 percent and outpacing the national growth rate by 0.1 percentage points.

AUSTIN ⎯ The Texas Workforce Commission Civil Rights Division (CRD) is responsible for investigating and enforcing state and federal laws regarding discrimination in housing and employment across the state.

The state added 27,900 positions over the month, reaching a total of 14,236,400 nonfarm jobs. Texas added 187,700 jobs from January 2024 to January 2025, bringing the annual nonfarm growth rate to 1.3 percent.

AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott today announced a more than $137,000 Skills Development Fund (SDF) grant awarded to El Paso Community College by the Texas Workforce Commission. Through this SDF grant, El Paso Community College will provide customized training for over 65 new and incumbent employees of Vinton Steel, LLC (“Vinton Steel") in heavy and civil engineering construction.
