Adult Education & Literacy Advisory Committee

Overview

The Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Advisory Committee advises the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) on matters related to the administration of the AEL programs in Texas.

About the Committee

The AEL advisory committee meets quarterly and reports to the Commission at least annually and is charge with advising the Commission on:

  • The development of policies and program priorities supporting the development of an educated and skilled workforce
  • The development of statewide curriculum guidelines and standards for AEL services that ensure a balance of education and workplace skills development
  • The development of a strategy for improving student transition to postsecondary education and career and technical education training
  • The development of a centralized system for collecting and tracking comprehensive data on adult basic education and literacy performance outcomes
  • The exploration of potential partnerships with entities in the nonprofit business communities and other entities to improve statewide literacy programs
  • Other issues TWC’s three-member Commission considers appropriate

The advisory committee must comprise of no more than nine members, including at least one representative of the business community and one representative of a local Workforce Solutions office.

Members are appointed for staggered two-year terms. Members are limited to one term and continued membership will be reviewed when a member no longer serves in the same employment capacity as when appointed to the committee.
